Game Page – The World Ends With You

The World Ends With You (often abbrivated lovingly as TWEWY), is an action RPG game, co-developed by Square Enix and Jupiter. It originally released internationally in April 2008 for the Nintendo DS system, utilizing both screens and various features of the DS for gameplay, and was eventually re-ported onto mobile devices (Solo Remix), an animated TV series adaptation (The Animation), as well as an enhanced port for the Nintendo Switch (Final Remix). Characters from The World Ends With You also appear in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance.

In The World Ends With You, you assume the role of Neku Sekuraba, a reclusive, standoffish teenager who awakens in the middle of Shibuya, Japan’s scramble crossing, and into the mysterious Reapers’ Game. As Neku, you have 7 Days to win the Reapers’ Game. Fail, and face erasure. Form a Pact with a Game Partner, and draw out the latent power of your Pins to survive the week-long challenge.

Aesthetically, The World Ends With You resembles a comic book or graphic novel in its cutscenes, and the gameplay mechanics are heavily inspired by Japanese youth culture, such as the use of clothing for stat boosts and passives, food for permanent stat increases, as well as aspects of shopping and trends, all while navigating a real-life analogue of the real-world location of Shibuya, Japan.
