Through an in-game notification, Nintendo has announced that Update Version 4.0.0 for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be distributed within the next seven days. Although the notification itself was brief, Nintendo also stated that more detailed patch notes will be made available when the update releases.
Also worth noting is that any previously saved replays may no longer be compatible, and will be deleted if that is the case. If there are any replays you want to save, it is best to export them now through the game’s own video converter, or to use a capture card of choice.
Given what we know about the E3 announcement of two DLC Characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it is very likely that Dragon Quest’s “The Hero” will also be released along with the update, as Joker was with the massive 3.0.0 update.
And if previous updates are any indicator, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn’t done growing, not by a long shot. We’ve seen a surprise DLC fighter close to release in Piranha Plant, the re-introduced and retooled Stage Builder make a return, a brand new online mode in Amiibo Journey, and even a VR Mode for singleplayer battles.
What else could be next? Could we see a re-introduction of Stadium Mode, where the old favorites of Target Smash, and the Home-Run Contest make a proud return? Or could Smash Run or Smash Tour make a resurgence? Or maybe, just maybe, we could see something brand new on the horizon.
What do you think about this new development? Should a new mode or feature be announced, what are you hoping it’ll be? I’m personally rooting for Smash Run to make a triumphant return; it’s been too long since Kirby Air Ride or even the 3DS Version of Super Smash Bros. to go without such a unique mode.
